Au-pair in Belgium
Next
favorite place for trip to Europe is Belgium. Also, there is a good
opportunity to spend some time as an au-pair, living by a host family and at
the same time learning more about the country and its people. Through the
visiting of language courses, you can even improve you skills in Flemish and
French languages.
Requirements for being an au-pair in Belgium:

Single
and without children
·
Candidate's
age should be between 18 and 25 years old, graduated from the high school and
have a certificate about education equal to the Belgian one.
·
Experience
with children is welcomed
·
Basic
knowledge of German, Flemish or French language
·
Non-smokers
have better chances
·
The
period of an au-pair stay is between 6 and 12 months
·
Visiting
of language courses is a must
Duties in a host family:
·
Looking
after children
·
Simple
house work (look Au-pair Lexicon)
·
According
to the law the work time is from 20 to 30 hours per week, babysitting is 2-3
times per week by arrangement with the host family, a free weekend per month
Au-pair
Plus can have 40 work hours per week

Costs:
an au-pair pays for his/her journey to the country and back, and also for the
language courses. Often the costs can be fully of partly paid by a host family.
Specifics:
At least
one child of a host family should be younger than 13 years old. A Belgian
family can also have a Belgian au-pair, if, for example, a Walloon family takes
a Flemish au-pair and vise versa.
Facilities for an au-pair in a host family:

room and full supporting

Pocket
money: 400-450 euro per month
·
Vocation:
two weeks during 12 months stay period (the pocket money are being paid)

Ticket
for the public transport to the language school and back is by arrangement

Often
a family's car can be also used

for the sufficient medical insurance are taken upon a host family

A
host family cannot have several au-pairs at the same time

Stay and entry conditions
Visa:
·
EU-citizens and citizens of Island,
Monaco, Norway and Leichtenstein need only
a valid ID or the foreign passport
Those who
stay in the country more than 3 months should execute the residence permit,
"attestation d' immatriculation" or "bewijs van inschrijving".
You can get
more information about it in the authorized Belgian consulate in your home
country or any authorized local department. During 8 days au-pair should register in the register or address office.
Nomination in a language school for legal au-pair status is a must.

Non EU-citizens need the valid work permit. Before
entry you should apply for the residence and work permit (Permis de travail or
Autorisation de sejor proviso ire-ASP), and prove your language knowledge or
bring a certificate which allows you to enter Belgian language school.
Entry
preparation can take several weeks or months. The host family applies for the
au-pair's work in authorized local department (Demande d'occupation is signed
be the host family and attested signature by authorized department). Then the
host family should fill in the model contract about the employment in the
municipality which is located in the host family's living district. Departments
of service de lÍmmigration are authorized for the main regions, Walloon and
Flemish provinces. Besides,
the au-pair should not have work permit in Belgium before. In addition to the medical
insurance the host family should also execute the accident and liability
insurance.
Those, who
would like to remain longer than three months in Belgium, need the Schengen visa
type D. Then you should apply for the visa before you enter in Belgium, and
after the host family receives the occupation permission and the work permit B
