Au-pair
in Finland
Finland
has signed the „European agreement about the au-pair employment", but has
not ratified it. For the last several years the au-pair program has
developed a little bit in Finland.
Requirements
for the au-pairs‘ stay in Finland:
- Single and without children
- According to the law stay period is from 3 to 12 months
- Age: from 18 to 30 years old
- Experience in child care and household
- Language knowledge: Basic knowledge of
Finnish or Swedish
- Work time is from 25 to 30 hours per week and 2-3 times per week of
babysitting in the evening are expected
- Au-pair pays his/her journey
- Au-pair pays for the language courses or by agreement the host familie can
take costs for the courses upon itself.
- Doctors certificate
- Driving license is always preferable
- Au-pairs are taxed (More information at Inland revenue in Finland_VERO)
- Non-conviction certificate
Conditions for
au-pairs in host families:
- Own
room and support
- Pocket money: 260 euro per month
- Vocation: according to the law one week of paid vocation in a half year
of work or by agreement with the host family
- Costs for the monthly ticket for the public transport are taken upon
the host family
- A family car can be used
- Host family pays for medical, accident and guarantee insurances. The
au-pairs from EU can fill in the insurance blank (E111) in their native country
before the departure. Additional insurance for the foreign countries is
advisable. Address to an insurance agency which can consult you.
Entry and stay formalities:
- Au-pairs from EU and EFTA can come to the country with a valid passport.
During three months after the entry registration at the local police should be done.
Au-pairs from Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway should register at Maistraatti (Local Register
Office).
- Au-pairs who are not from EU countries should apply for the visa in
Finnish embessy of their native country. Condidates from Australia and New
Zealand can come to Finland through Working Holiday Marker Program. You can receive more information

Specifics:
- The au-pair should not be a relative of the host family.
